Saeng Myong Student Handbooks
These handbooks outline everything a student in the Junior Tae Kwon Do, Adult TKD or Kung Fu program needs to know at each rank. Please be aware that it is always incomplete - students are also responsible for remembering any other information that instructors share during class or test!
Please note that the Junior Program card system employed during class is intended as a training tool for students to track their goals daily. The cards are not comprehensive or intended to replace the handbook.

Forms Instruction
Tae Kwon Do techniques are demonstrated in a more artistic, choreographed manner through forms. Each rank has a new form to perfect. It is recommended that you practice all the forms that you know at every level at least 3 times a week, if not every day. Once you learn a form, you should never forget it. As technique improves, so should the forms continue to improve; a black belt doing an early form should look better than lower ranking belts performing the same form. Also, be sure to memorize the Korean name for each form and how many moves contained in the form.
After you have memorized the order of moves in your form, start paying attention to the technique. Don't rush; speed will come as techniques get easier. Some things to focus on when you are practicing your forms:
- Are my stances correct and low? Stop with each move to check your body position.
- Is there definition in the moves? Make sure the pacing is correct and that your muscle tension is appropriate.
- Is there power in my strikes and blocks? Use your core and ki ahps to generate power.
- Is there snap to my movement? Double check that you are chambering and moving on the correct angles to achieve snap.
Below are the first 6 forms taught in the Tae Kwon Do program, written out step by step. The Old Forms are taught to the children in the Junior Program first; the adults start with the 3 Basic Forms. Please do not skip ahead; you will be taught each new form as your instructor determines your readiness.
